UPDATE: Evacuations have been ordered in the area near a 30-acre brush fire in far East County north of the Golden Acorn Casino.
A wind-driven wildfire blackened dozens of brushy open acres southeast of Pine Valley on Tuesday, threatening a handful of structures and prompting evacuations as ground and airborne crews worked to subdue the flames from the 30-acre fire.
The Blackwood Fire, which is burning near Live Oak Springs in grass and brush, is being driven by the wind and is threatening five structures near Black Wood and Old Mine roads, not far from the Manzanita Tribal Office. A representative from San Diego Gas & Electric said the winds were blowing west-southwest, with gusts approaching 25 mph.
Deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department are aiding in evacuations of the La Posta and Manzanita reservations, officials said. Authorities are directing people to a shelter that has been set up at the Golden Acorn Casino, in Campo.
