RANCHO CUCAMONGA >> For four innings Thursday, the top-seeded Etiwanda baseball team was stymied by Birmingham junior right-hander Daniel Flores.The CIF-SS Division 2 champion Eagles posted a pair of six-run innings and routed fifth-seeded Birmingham 12-1 in a CIF State SoCal Division II Regional semifinal at Etiwanda High School.Etiwanda , which tied a school record for wins in a season, hosts second-seeded Torrey Pines for the regional title in the final game of the season Saturday.
No. 7 hitter Kaedon Mas started with a single to left and when Tyler McEvoy followed with another single to left, the ball rolled all the way to the fence for a two-base error, allowing the Eagles to tie the score and put the go-ahead run on third. Flores allowed only three hits and a walk in the first four innings while striking out three, but he couldn’t make it through the fifth. He faced eight batters in the fifth, retiring only one.
Ebel, who is the scheduled starting pitcher Saturday, finished the game 3 for 3 with two doubles, a triple, a walk, a run and an RBI. Briseno, Mas and McEvoy each reached base three times between the fifth and sixth innings alone, and each scored two runs.
