El presidente chileno Gabriel Boric anunció el miércoles que, por primera vez, el Estado buscará a más de 1.100 desaparecidos durante la cruenta dictadura de Augusto Pinochet a través de un plan nacional de búsqueda.
El mandatario eligió el Día Internacional de las Víctimas de Desaparición Forzada para cumplir una de sus promesas de gobierno.
El plan “busca que esa responsabilidad sea una obligación permanente del Estado”, señaló por su parte el ministro de Justicia, Luis Cordero. El ministro —que tiene dos tíos abuelos desaparecidos y no escondió su emoción en el acto— dijo que entre los miembros y exintegrantes de las Fuerzas Armadas “es evidente que hay personas que tienen información” sobre el destino de los desaparecidos.
El lanzamiento del programa fue un proceso de varios meses y 67 reuniones con más de 700 personas, organizaciones de familiares y de derechos humanos. En el pasado las autoridades hicieron algunos esfuerzos infructuosos para ubicar a los desaparecidos. En 1991 se hallaron los restos de 126 personas en 107 tumbas que se creía que eran de opositores a la dictadura.
