The Edwards Aquifer Authority’s new Education Outreach Center, located on the grounds of Morgan’s Wonderland Camp, is dedicated to educating the community about the aquifer and its importance to the local environment. In an effort to help local kids visualize the Edwards Aquifer, the region’s largest source of water, the agency that manages it has created and opened an interactive education outreach center.
The creation of the center was a three-year, $3 million collaboration between the EAA and Morgan’s Wonderland, said Mike De La Garza, EAA’s executive director of communications and development. De La Garza said the center was conceived and built so quickly thanks to Gordon Hartman, Morgan’s Wonderland founder and owner.
“When they came to me with the idea,” he continued, “my initial reaction was ‘That may take forever and we don’t have time for that. This needs to get done now.'” From its karst theater — a small theater made to look like a real cave, complete with stalactites and stalagmites — to its interactive “cloud maker” where kids can make small tufty clouds of humidified smoke rings, the center is designed for folks of all ages, said EAA General Manager Roland Ruiz.
