East County traffic stop turns up 112 pounds of fentanyl pills, worth more than $1.5 million [Breaking]
A traffic stop by U.S. Border Patrol agents on an East County freeway turned up 112 pounds of blue pills containing fentanyl, worth upwards of $1.5 million on the street, the federal agency said Friday.
Agents made the find May 18 after pulling over a Ford Expedition headed west on Interstate 8, officials said in a news release. They did not say specifically when and where the stop was made, nor did they say what prompted agents to pull over the driver. During the traffic stop, a drug-sniffing dog got a hit on the vehicle. Agents took the SUV and the driver to the Border Patrol checkpoint on I-8 in Pine Valley.A search of the vehicle revealed nine plastic-wrapped packages secreted in the roof. The packages contained blue pills that tested positive for fentanyl.
