Farmers in Texas have been in good spirits since rain has come early ahead of the harvesting season. So far, the rainfall has shielded their crops from the extreme heat that has surrounded the state.

TAYLOR, Texas —

“We like to plant early in February and then hope for the best. Right where we’re standing now, we had really exceptional rainfall,” Prinz said. “It was in stress early but then got good rains in April and May and you can see the result of it. [The rain] really came on strong,” Avant said. According to the latest USDA crop progress and condition report, most of Texas has followed suit this year with a “good” or at least “fair” rating. Texas Farm Bureau spokesperson Gary Joiner explained early moisture returns are positive.
