In several interviews published Wednesday — after the NBA investigation was published, but before Sarver said he was selling the teams — Kerr said he hadn't changed his mind about Sarver.
."What I saw was stuff that was inappropriate, and I think there's a difference." Kerr did tell the Merc that he believed the incidents described in the NBA's and ESPN's investigations happened, and obliquely acknowledged on the Ringer podcast that he may have a blind spot as a white man.
But ultimately, Kerr stuck to the same line: Sarver just had an immature sense of humor."There’s no doubt that that was part of the experience there," Kerr said of his time in Phoenix."At that point, it’s up to anybody to judge what’s inappropriate and what goes beyond inappropriate, and however you want to assess that is up to the individual."
At least one of those individual assessments came from an unnamed co-owner of the Suns, who told ESPN at the time that"the level of misogyny and racism is beyond the pale." A former Suns executive told ESPN that Sarver is"a misogynist and a racist, but he wasn't dumb." “Frankly, most of the people that I have stayed in touch with and I speak with do not feel Robert displayed racism when we were there together," Kerr told the Mercury News. The NBA came to the same meaningless conclusion: After largely substantiating every allegation made against Sarver, the league made sure to note that"the investigation made no finding that Mr. Sarver’s workplace misconduct was motivated by racial or gender-based animus.
