Authorities on Wednesday publicly identified a man who died in a head-on Labor Day traffic crash near Dos Picos County Park in Ramona.
James Alvarez, 23, was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta northbound on state Route 67 shortly after 3:30 a.m. Monday, according to the county Medical Examiner’s Office and the California Highway Patrol.
He drove the Jetta across double yellow lines and into oncoming traffic — directly into the path of a southbound 2019 Toyota Camry, CHP Officer Jared Grieshaber said.The cars collided head-on near Boortz Lane. Alvarez, a Ramona resident, died at the scene. Paramedics took the Camry driver, a 20-year-old Ramona woman, to a hospital to be treated for injuries not considered life-threatening, Grieshaber said.
