The new Erieview Tower in downtown Cleveland is to include residences, a hotel and offices

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland City Council voted late Wednesday to approve a 10-year, $9.2 million commercial tax abatementThe 40-story building on East 12th Street was purchased by developer James Kassouf in 2018 for $17.7 million. The Erieview project is set to transform the long baron building, that also includes the Galleria, into a mixed-use development.

At over 1 million square feet, Erieview is slated to include 227 rental apartments branded by W Residences, a 210-key luxury hotel branded and managed by W Hotels, 300,000 square feet of office space and more than 500 indoor parking spaces. Early plans also showed a spa, restaurant, roof top bar and refreshed lobby.

The Galleria at 210,000 square feet could possibly include fine dining, a new food court, indoor sports, entertainment spaces and a renovated second floor ballroom. The tax abatement follows previously awarded state and other tax credits. In 2017, Erieview, which was built in 1964 and renovated in 1987, was added to the National Register of Historic Places, making it eligible for federal historic tax credits.

And, in addition to the commercial tax abatement, the residential portion would be eligible for up to 15 years of tax abatements.
