Eddie Murphy is reportedly starring in a hybrid, The Pink Panther, and his version of the film will be very different than the originals.
Eddie Murphy is reportedly set to star in a new animated live-action hybrid version of The Pink Panther. The actor will portray police inspector Clouseau, who several actors have played in the past. In the original 1963 film, Peter Sellers portrayed Clouseau and continued playing the character until 1983's Curse of the Pink Panther. Roberto Benigni took over the role in 1993's Son of the Pink Panther, and in the 2006 reboot and its 2009 sequel, comedy legend Steve Martin became Clouseau.

In the original movies, the panther only appeared in the title and end sequences and then got his own animated spinoff shows. This time the film is bringing the panther into the storyline. Allegedly Jeff Fowler will be directing The Pink Panther, with Chris Bremner working on the script.
Could Eddie Murphy's New Pink Panther Movie Actually Work? It sounds like a very silly concept and is at risk of not being taken seriously at all. However, if Murphy does take on the role, he's usually very good at playing comedic characters. Also, Fowler succeeded with his hybrid Sonic film, so if he's on board, there's a chance the new spin on The Pink Panther will be good.
