Brasier replaced Phil Bickford with the bases loaded and no outs in the seventh inning and escaped with the Dodgers’ two-run lead undiminished. Hudson created his own mess in the ninth, giving up a leadoff double and back-to-back walks before escaping. In the fourth, Miller gave up a double to fellow Louisville product Henry Davis and a single to Carlos Santana that put runners at the corners with no outs. A 2-and-1 slider up in the zone to Jack Suwinski turned into a three-run home run and that 4-0 Pirates lead.
An inning later, second-year right-hander Roansy Contreras picked up where Bido left off. He walked Will Smith and Muncy back-to-back with one out then gave up a three-run home run to Martinez and a solo home run to Peralta that put the Dodgers in the lead.
