, also called Deepavali , typically falls sometime between October and November, based on the Hindu lunar calendar, and lasts five to six days. The word Deepavali derives from Sanskrit and means “a row of lights” and commemorates the victory of good over evil and the light of knowledge over spiritual darkness.

Many also partake in heart-warming celebrations where cows, dogs and other domesticated animals are honored and fed extra treats as a reminder to us humans of our obligation to care for all living beings.
