Former San Antonio attorney Christopher Pettit’s wants the start of his March 20 criminal trial delayed by 90 days, in part, so his attorney can negotiate a possible plea deal.accused of stealing tens of millions of dollars
Matthew T. Allen, Pettit’s defense lawyer, filed a motion Friday seeking a 90-day delay in the start of the trial — currently set for March 20. A grand jury indicted Pettit, 55, in December on five counts of wire fraud and three counts of money laundering, charges that could land him in prison for years if convicted. He has pleaded not guilty and is being held at the Karnes County Detention Facility awaiting trial.
About a dozen clients sued Pettit alleging he had stolen millions of dollars from them. After the allegations became public, Pettit filed for bankruptcy protection for himself and his law firm and subsequently surrendered his law license.
