The Devils will begin contract discussions with star forward Timo Meier this week, general manager Tom Fitzgerald said in an interview with NHL.com Tuesday.
Meier, acquired in a blockbuster deal between the Devils and the San Jose Sharks in late February, is set to become a restricted free agent on July 1 and has a $10 million qualifying offer. Speaking withat the NHL Scouting Combine, Fitzgerald seemed adamant about ironing out a long-term deal with Meier’s agent Claude Lemieux before the winger becomes an unrestricted free agent next offseason.
