Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has pulled out of a $25,000-a-plate New York fundraiser for gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin, with his campaign citing his attendance at a funeral for an officer killed in the line of duty.
DeSantis opted to attend a funeral for Special Agent Jose Perez, who succumbed to his injuries 18 days after a car crash on Aug. 2.Initially, the governor was going to headline a fundraiser Sunday night for Zeldin, which was reportedly expected to bring in over $1 million.
However, he was unable to attend, as he needed to go to a Monday memorial service in Miami for Perez.Zeldin's campaign expects DeSantis to return to New York later, however, for a future event, according to a report.DeSantis's campaign declined to comment but confirmed details of the change of plans to Politico.
