Potentially severe storms are expected on the eastern high plains after 2 p.m., bringing large hail and damaging bursts of wind
Metro Denver residents face hot, dry weather Thursday under sunny blue skies — the fifth day in a row with temperatures exceeding 90 degrees — with possible afternoon rain showers, according to the National Weather Service.weather service
forecasters said. On Friday, the high temperature is expected to be 87 degrees as a cooling trend kicks in, containing the heat through Saturday. During Thursday afternoon, rain storms may bring rain and wind gusting at speeds up to 22 miles per hour, forecasters said. Any rain likely will be brief along Colorado’s Front Range Interstate 25 urban corridor — but potentially severe storms are expected on the eastern high plains after 2 p.m., bringing large hail and damaging bursts of wind, forecasters said. Meteorologists estimated the likelihood of rain Thursday at 20%.
Heat in recent days has favored air pollution, and state health officials issued an air quality alert, warning of potentially harmful conditions and asking residents to take action, effective through Thursday afternoon.
