The findings show restrictive laws do nothing to end the need for abortion, but instead change how some people access it, said Abigail Aiken, an associate professor at the University of Texas at Austin and the study’s lead author.
“As the number of in-clinic abortions has decreased under abortion bans, we’ve seen a concurrent increase in self-managed abortions,” Aiken said in a written statement.the Guttmacher Institute , a reproductive rights research and policy organization. Two drugs, mifepristone and misoprostol, are taken in tandem to block the hormone needed to help the pregnancy develop and to induce contractions.
