Manny Machado again erases Tommy Pham homer with a two-run shot, Joe Musgrove strong as Padres capture third straight game
’ third baseman erased it quickly, following Austin Nola’s leadoff single with a homer to left in the bottom of the inning.The starting pitcher, Joe Musgrove, turned in a quality start. The defense was flawless again to extend the Padres’ MLB record to 13 straight games without an error to start the season. The Padres’ bats even tacked on a bit more as the team improved to 7-0 when scoring at least three runs.
After Pham’s 106.7 mph homer in the first inning, Musgrove retired 14 straight batters before Aramis Garcia’s one-out double in the sixth. Garcia scored on Kyle Farmer’s one-out single to shave the Padres’ lead to 5-2, but Musgrove struck out Pham — a triple shy of the cycle against Manaea on Monday — to end the sixth.
Suarez added a scoreless eighth and Tim Hill pitched in with a scoreless ninth to secure the Padres’ third straight win.
