Deer Park remained one game back of Dobie thanks to good defense. good pitching and six players knocking in runs
Pasadena outfielder Alex Pena catches this single on one bounce during Tuesday's district game with Memorial at Maguire Field. The Mavs kept their small hopes for a playoff berth alive with an easy victory.Six players drove in runs to support another strong outing from Brayden Gilley on the hill as Deer Park's varsity baseball team upped their District 22-6A winning streak to five with a 10-1 victory over Channelview at Jim Kethan Field Tuesday night.
The district standings are playing out just as all thought. Deer Park and Dobie are headed for identical 11-1 records and co-champs of the district, while leaving everyone else in the dust. It's up for debate if Gilley has had better outings, but he showed some moxie when the screws began to tighten. In both the second and third innings, basehits put Falcons on board, including a leadoff double to begin the third. But in both innings, Channelview failed to score. Gilley likely even turned in the defensive play of the game when he barehanded a chopper to the left of the mound and fired an accurate throw to first for the inning's final out.
Speaking of Aguirre, he and Reed Mallett co-led the team in RBIs with two. Kaenan Kiefer, Tristan Patterson, Anthony Ramirez and Dillon Mancha collected one.
