An employee at the Mat-Su school discovered Devin White of Big Lake at 10:53 a.m., Alaska State Troopers wrote in a“Troopers found no obvious signs of injuries or trauma, however evidence at the scene makes this death suspicious in nature,” the statement said.
White’s body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office, where cause of death will be determined, troopers said.Big Lake Elementary was placed in stay-put mode Tuesday for several hours after White’s death was reported. An official said the decision was made “out of an abundance of caution.” There was no danger to students or staff, troopers said.
Houston Jr./Sr. High School families were notified Tuesday night by the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District that a student from that school had died. Students were notified Wednesday morning, and school psychologists and counselors were available to talk with students, principal Benjamin Howard said.
The district did not provide further information about the situation and said in a statement that it priority “will be supporting students and staff as needed.” Troopers asked anyone with information about White’s death to call 907-352-5401, submit a tip through the AKTips smartphone app, text the word AKTIPS followed by information to 847411, or submit the tip
