director David Ayer took to Twitter to reveal a cut ending for one of the movie’s characters — Jay Hernandez’s El Diablo. Responding toshould have had the teammates help El Diablo build an ofrenda for his family, Ayer revealed that he had had a similar idea.
The director stated that the movie was meant to end with Diablo “making an ofrenda,” which is an altar honoring the dead, “and lighting it with his powers.” However, this was cut out by the studio being in favor of killing the character off. Ayer then said that Diablo’s dialogue is based on the people he grew up with in South Central Los Angeles.
I ended it with Diablo making an ofrenda and lighting it with his powers. Studio cut it out. And killed him. And Diablo talks just like all the heads I grew up with in South Central. ??
