Diana Ordóñez scored the goal that doubled the Dash's lead in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Chicago Red Stars.Bárbara Olivieri opened the scoring early in the game, Diana Ordóñez doubled the lead in the second half and Houston shut out the Chicago Red Stars 2-0 on Wednesday night to pick up its first win of the UGK Challenge Cup at Shell Energy Stadium.
“I felt that with a couple of changes, we reacted pretty well,” Laity said. “Good intensity, we played with urgency. Towards the end of the first half, we started to slow things down a little bit too much, but I think it was a good reaction. A good reaction from the team — an important one.” Chicago dropped its Challenge Cup opener. The Dash were swept by the Red Stars in last year’s Cup matchups with a pair of two-goal losses but have won the past four contests since then, outscoring them 9-2 in those matches.
Laity said Olivieri has been contributing on the attacking end of the field in training and proved it Wednesday. The 21-year-old out of Texas A&M had family in the stands and called the goal a huge confidence booster.
