The Dash brought in four new players through the draft on Thursday, just a few hours after the club announced a trade that brought in a forward who took the NWSL by storm last season., who had a sensational rookie season with a record-setting 11 goals for the North Carolina Courage. Houston then drafted two players in the second round of Thursday’s draft, a player in the third round and another in the fourth to cap an eventful day for the franchise.
The Dash started their draft by selecting Sophie Hirst, a midfielder out of Harvard, with the No. 20 overall pick. Two picks later, Houston added Jyllissa Harris, reuniting her with former South Carolina teammate Ryan Gareis. Houston obtained the No. 30 pick as part of the Ordóñez trade. The Dash traded that pick to the Washington Spirit for the No. 32 pick and $30,000 in allocation money, then traded down again to the No. 36 pick for $20,000 allocation money from Portland Thorns FC.
