The leaders of Marvel's two most significant teams, Cyclops and Captain Marvel, are about to face off, and it's anyone's fight to win. In a preview for this fall's X-Men Annual #1, the leaders of the X-Men and the Avengers are being set up for an epic duel.

Cyclops' Battle With Captain Marvel's Will Prove Scott's True Worth Both Scott and Carol have decades of history as heroes. While Cyclops never hid his harsh opinion of the Avengers, Captain Marvel has recently been voted as the new leader of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. This current status quo has deadly implications if the two teams were to have a falling out, a potential seen most infamously in 2012's "Avengers vs. X-Men" crossover.
However, not being the most powerful hero in a fight hasn't stopped Cyclops from success before. Scott has spent his publication history proving himself to be one of the greatest tacticians in comics, starting all the way back in his days as a student taking charge of the original five X-Men on missions defeating iconic villains like Magneto and Juggernaut.
The Avengers and X-Men Could Be On the Outs Once Again Set to release in November, there's no saying yet what shape the X-Men and the Avengers will be in by the time X-Men Annual #1 takes place. With both teams facing a seemingly never-ending cascade of threats and conflict all over the Marvel Universe, the next chapter of their stories could mark a tipping point for two of the most important teams in comics history and their leaders, Cyclops and Captain Marvel.
