CLEVELAND, Ohio – Uncommitted voters looking to be swayed by something new from the candidates running for Cuyahoga County executive were likely disappointed by Tuesday’s debate.for a stronger, more united county that they’ve been sharing throughout their campaigns over the past year.
Both framed themselves as the same men that residents have known and worked with for decades in their respective roles as community leaders and businessmen. Ronayne was planning director and chief of staff for former Mayor Jane Campbell and most recently was president for University Circle Inc. Weingart is a former county commissioner and lobbyist whose firm previously helped expand some of the county’s powers.“I’m your man,” Weingart encouraged.
Each pledged to focus more on diversion efforts to redirect residents away from jail and said they would reimagine plans to build a new one. Ronayne would find a new location that doesn’t require the same level of environmental remediation as the site currently under consideration.
