COVID-19 deaths down significantly from last year as another peak infection season nears in Pa.

An average of 23 people were dying of COVID-19 in Pennsylvania as of Tuesday, according to the newest available data. That compares to a seven-day average of 39 daily deaths on the same date last year, according to tracking by Johns Hopkins. The average daily count of new infections is also lower — 3,031 as of Tuesday, down from 4,642 a year ago.
