Though an established songwriter, Nelson didn’t become a star in his own right until he eschewed the confines of the Nashville music scene, moved to Austin, and began mixing his love of jazz and folk with country music. He released successful and influential recordings, such as the concept album, “Red Headed Stranger” , featuring his cover of “Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain,” which became his first No. 1 country hit.
