After 24 years, an unidentified young man brutally murdered by a Santa Cruz couple finally has his name back.

Investigators believe Cupo was invited by Dotson and Labore to stay at an abandoned house they were using in Boulder Creek. There, forensic teams would later find puddles of blood on a bed. It’s believed the pair bludgeoned and stabbed Cupo to death and stole his gun. They weren’t secretive about what they’d done, either.
In 1999, Dotson, Labore and several other friends went to trial for the murders of the unidentified man and Gaylord “Kelly” Chilcote, 58, a Watsonville businessman. Two weeks after killing Cupo, the couple had gone toDotson and Labore, who faced the death penalty, elected toin exchange for life sentences.
