Some fans have criticized singer Phil Anselmo for reviving the band after the deaths of two founding members.

The next year, Dimebag and three others were shot to death by a disgruntled Pantera fan during a Damageplan show in Ohio. Vinnie Abbott died in 2018 of heart disease. In July, singer Phil Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown announced they were reforming Pantera with guitarist Zakk Wylde and drummer Charlie Benante . The announcement drew criticism from some Pantera fans who thought the band shouldn’t be revived after the Abbotts died.
