Dep. Andrew Hall was convicted for the 2018 shooting of Laudemer Arboleda in Danville.
The historic conviction and sentencing of a deputy in Contra Costa County did not sit well with the county’s sheriff, and now prosecutors in California are asking for an audit of his disciplinary practices and training.sentencing of former Deputy Andrew Hall
“For our district attorney to charge a deputy sheriff, or any peace officer, for a crime based on a split-second tactical decision is abhorrent,” he wrote. “It is even more abhorrent for that same district attorney to later repost photos of her re-election campaign social media that show her smiling and proclaiming that she ‘charged the officer.'”
“Abhorrent” was the same term used by Prosecutors Alliance of California executive director and founder Christine Soto DeBerry in response to what Livingston wrote. After Arboleda’s shooting, a sheriff’s office probe cleared Hall, and he returned to duty. Hall was not charged in Arboleda’s death until 2021, after he shot to death Danville homeless resident Tyrell Wilson last March.. The shooting became a flashpoint in the debate over policing in the Bay Area.“During his years of service, he served with honor and distinction,” Livingston wrote.
