It was unclear exactly when the symbol was drawn.
A swastika that was drawn into the top of a desk at Glen Rock Middle School in Bergen County was discovered Wednesday by two students, authorities said.
The room where the desk is located is shared by students from 6th to the 8th grade but a timeframe of when the symbol was drawn was not yet confirmed by investigators, Glen Rock Police Chief Dean Ackermann told NJ Advance Media.“This symbol of hate cannot and will not be tolerated in North Jersey — especially within our schools which should be teaching that our diversity is one of our greatest strengths,” Gottheimer said.
Gottheimer said he was in contact with town and school officials to “ensure appropriate measures are taken, including a strong focus on Holocaust education.” Ackermann said he and his wife would be joining members of the town’s Jewish community at a public menorah lighting at Kilroy’s Market on Rock Road on Sunday and called for citizens to “take a stance against antisemitism and all forms of hate.”
