Columbus City Council approved $25 million toward caps for South 3rd and 4th streets and South High Street as part of Interstate 70/71 project.
According to City Council legislation, the money will go toward utility relocation and construction services for the work.
Renderings of the caps were presented at Monday's City Council meeting. The city's total contribution to the project is expected to be $98 million. Matt Bruning, a spokesman for the Ohio Department of Transportation, said the money City Council approved had been part of the funding plan for quite a while."These funds will pay for surface street improvements and pedestrian-focused enhancements on the city streets carried by the bridges over the highway," Bruning said in an email.
