Even without having worn the burgundy and blue yet, the Colorado Rapids will have at least one representative at the 2022 FIFA World Cup later this month in Qatar.
On Thursday, Rapids 2 midfielder Daniel Chacón was named to the 26-man roster for the Costa Rica men’s national team., but remained at his boyhood club, C.S. Cartiginés, on loan through the rest of 2022 in order for him to get the best possibility to make the final roster. He made 113 appearances for his hometown team and made his professional debut at just 16 years old.
For Rapids 2 General Manager Brian Crookham, the selection spoke to not only what he can bring for his country for years to come, but the Rapids, too. “We are so thrilled for Dani,” Crookham told The Post Thursday. “… He can be a guy that can build around for a long time. This experience will be huge as he’s going to build on for his career, and it’s certainly going to be something he can bring back to our club. Not only to continue to develop, but to pull guys with him and raise the level every day.Chacón will be one of the youngest players on a veteran Costa Rican team.
He has made seven senior national team appearances, but represented his country at every major age level, including the U-17 World Cup.
