Firefighters can expect warmer weather and lower humidity levels Thursday night into Friday after containing 65% of the Colorado Fire days after it was was ignited along the Big Sur coast, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
Humidity levels are expected to drop to the 25-30% range by Friday morning while winds, hovering between 10-15 mph, could shift to a southerly direction, according to National Weather Service forecaster Ryan Walbrun. “The benefit of drier humidity is that it can help with the mop-up process,” he said. “Any of the fuel that still has heat on it will show itself with the lowering of the humidity and drying of the air mass. If anything, it should help the process as it heads into Friday and Saturday.”
Temperatures will range in the mid 60s to 70s on Thursday afternoon, but won’t be “exceedingly warm,” according to Walbrun. “Compared to what could be a typical January day, it’s warmer and drier than what we want to see,” he said.
