San Diego State, UC San Diego both aiming to maintain first place in respective conferences; USD needs strong showing at Portland to stay in first-place hunt
As the college baseball season reaches the midway mark, all three of San Diego’s Division I teams are in the thick of their conference races.
The Aztecs and Fresno State have the top two pitching staffs in the conference. The Bulldogs’ challenge is an offense that is last in the MW in batting , home runs and runs scored .The Tritons sit atop the Big West as the conference season reaches is midpoint with a trip to Hawaii . UCSD’s pitching continues to impress, with its 4.12 ERA second only to UC Santa Barbara’s 3.58 ERA.
USD has won three of four conference series thus far, averaging 9.5 runs a game in its WCC victories.
