The state Department of Environmental Protection issued an Air Quality Action Day for Monday over increased heat and air pollution. Increased ozone could create unhealthy conditions to sensitive groups. .Officials with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection have declared a code orange air quality alert for fine particulate matter for the Harrisburg region on Saturday.
Saturday’s air quality alert applies to Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon and York counties, officials said. Due to lingering fine particulate matter values across Quebec and Ontario, Canada, the daily average concentrations of fine particulate matter will be in the Code Orange range in our region on Saturday, the DEP said.
The orange warning on the color-coded scale used by the DEP and the federal Environmental Protection Agency indicates that air quality may be unhealthy for particularly vulnerable or sensitive people.
