A code enforcement officer for a Jersey Shore town was charged with stealing more than $75,000 in cash by altering records, authorities said.
Michelle Calderon, a Ventnor employee, kept the money for herself after residents paid cash for various city permits, theCalderon, 37, of Egg Harbor Township, covered up the theft by changing the balance sheets on a city-owned computer from 2021 through this year, officials said. She is charged with official misconduct, pattern of official misconduct, misapplication of entrusted property and altering computer software to commit theft.
Calderon has been a public employee since 2013, according to state pension records.
