The Clone Wars animated series retconned a moment from The Empire Strikes Back, making one of Star Wars' funniest scenes even more hilarious.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars features a hilarious retcon to The Empire Strikes Back, confirming a prior relationship between Jedi Master Yoda and R2-D2, the iconic astromech who's been in every single Skywalker saga movie and several shows. Needing someone to train him in the ways of the Force following Obi-Wan Kenobi's demise in A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back sees Kenobi's Force ghost instructing Luke Skywalker to visit Yoda in the Dagobah system.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Becoming an isolated hermit during the Empire's reign, Yoda waited for years to train the galaxy's new hope. Likewise, additions to the canon confirmed Yoda wanted to train Leia given her discipline and strength of will, though he was ultimately convinced by Kenobi to train Luke, instead.

As such, this does bring new context to Artoo's feelings about Dagobah while en route to the swamp world following the Battle of Hoth, as seen in The Empire Strikes Back. Upon learning that Luke wanted to go to Dagobah, Artoo not only tried to take Skywalker's X-Wing in another direction, but he also attempted to get Luke to reconsider landing on the world once they reached its orbit. Clearly, Artoo did not want to go to Dagobah following his last visit with Yoda .

Artoo Knew Who Yoda Was Straight Away Once Artoo and Luke come across Yoda, things get even more hilarious. Serving as one of Star Wars' most humorous scenes, Yoda pretends to be eccentric and starts rummaging through Luke's belongings. However, Yoda is well aware of who Luke and Artoo are. More importantly, The Clone Wars proves Artoo knows exactly who Yoda is at this moment, and doesn't say anything.

One of two reasons is likely to explain Artoo's actions, and both are equally funny. Either Artoo genuinely thought Yoda had gone loopy as the diminutive Jedi tried to take Luke's flashlight and continually hit the astromech with his walking stick, or the trusty droid totally played along with the Jedi Master, wanting to join in on the fun at Luke's expense.
