Free COVID test kits from the federal government are starting to be delivered.
That’s led to questions on whether the cold weather will ruin the tests. It says the tests were designed to ensure that their performance will remain stable when stored at various temperatures, including winter shipping to frigid regions and summer shipping in very hot regions.
The FDA advises people whose tests were delivered to their homes in freezing temperatures to bring the package inside and leave it unopened at room temperature for at least two hours before use. After the package is at room temperature, it can be used according to the instructions provided.
