Sherrod Brown, a Cleveland Democrat, on Wednesday introduced legislation aimed at lowering the cost and improving the availability and quality of child care in rural communities.
It would also allow USDA to make awards through intermediaries such as childcare resource and referral organizations, staffed family childcare networks, and Community Development Financial Institutions with demonstrated expertise in the childcare sector. Brown, a senior member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, hopes to include his legislation in an upcoming Farm Bill.
