We talked with Alexander, Edmond, and Lewis about the company’s trajectory and what they hope viewers will take away from the series. The interview has been condensed and edited for clarity.: It’s raw and it’s very truthful and impactful. Just being able to uncover really what it’s like to be a Black man, a Black male in America. We’re really hoping that this will just continue to break down stereotypes ...
: If you’re not from Chicago, all you see is violence, shootings, Chi-Raq in the media ... all these different negative connotations describe Chicagoans, specifically Black men. For us to be on the first episode, it gives us a really unique opportunity to dismantle that stereotype, to talk about if we’re dangerous, we’re dangerous in a way of succeeding — dangerous in a way of overcoming stereotypes, overcoming obstacles in our current lived experiences.
When we go into these grocery stores and try to get these accounts, they’re not just looking at us as a product. They’re looking at who we are as individuals and then the question lies: Do they do that with anybody else of different backgrounds? When we first started, we were told from a gentleman that was in this industry for over 40 years, that this was the first time his people were sitting down with Black people.
