Chicago health leaders trained community workers to help those struggling with mental health in some of the city's most violent neighborhoods.

CHICAGO -- Chicago health leaders trained community workers to help those struggling with mental health.

"These folks are in the trenches, they are in the front lines working hard every day responding to some of the most traumatic experiences in the city," Pharlone Toussaint with the Center for Healing & Justice Through Sport said. Tuesday's training was in the South Lawndale/Little Village Neighborhood. Several of the participants grew up in the area and now work as youth mentors in schools or community organizations.

"I feel when you first go to schools you think there is a problem with them, they are just figuring out life," training participant Marcus Cavazos said."I feel like if you take that approach instead of going to fix their problems immediately like just learning who they are how they live."
