Double Play Bar and Grill, a historic and beloved Mission District sports bar, suffered extensive damages from a fire in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The news was confirmed in a tweet posted by San Francisco Firefighters Local 798, the union that represents San Francisco's firefighters.The bar has been aat the corner of 16th Street and Bryant Street since 1909. It sits across the street from what was once Seals Stadium, where the San Francisco Seals played, and is treasured by locals as both a shrine of San Francisco baseball memorabilia and a place to come and watch nearly every type of sporting event imaginable.
This morning a landmark, Double Play, caught on fire. Many firefighters frequented this bar. This is a loss for all in the community.
