Central, western Md. put drought watch after months of below-average rainfall
The Big Gunpowder Falls flows in a narrow channel under Paper Mill Road near the northwest end of Loch Raven Reservoir. “They said, ‘If in another week we don’t have rain, things are going to get desperate,’” Kiler said. “We’ve had some rain, so I don’t think things are desperate yet.” Carroll County agriculture has an $87 million market share, according to the Carroll County Department of Economic Development. Hay, corn, wheat, soybeans and cattle are the leading products. The success of row crops, therefore, is important for Carroll farmers’ economic success.
