Superintendent of education Tom Hickey says a 'trust has been broken' but that the division promises to support and welcome all students. yxe

Hickey on Thursday addressed dozens of people who rallied outside the school division’s office in downtown Saskatoon. Visibly emotional at times, Hickey said he’s had conversations with “many members all across the sexual diversity spectrum” in the days since his email was made public. He said that during those encounters he “felt an incredible amount of hurt … and that was very difficult.”“We’re not there yet and we need to continue to grow into it,” Hickey said.

Last week, Rivard in a statement said that parents and caregivers are best positioned to decide on their children’s participation in this programming within the festival. The Saskatoon Public Schools division held a Pride flag raising on Thursday. In a statement, the division said they “strive to create safe, welcoming and joyful places that are caring and accepting of all.”
