The Arizona Cardinals know all about Chandler Jones, but it figures to be different this time when they face him as the enemy on Sunday in Las Vegas.
The Arizona Cardinals got off to a rough start in Week 1. Do they stand a chance against the Las Vegas Raiders in NFL Week 2?LAS VEGAS – Chandler Jones has been giving different names for each of his pass-rushing moves for years and one of them, Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury recalled, was something called the “Snapchat.”
“He texted me the other night,” Kingsbury said, “and I just texted him back saying, ‘Don’t hold it against me when we ship you with the tight end and the back every play.’ We’re going to try to handle him, but they’ve got two Hall of Fame rushers and we understand that so we’ve got to have a good plan.”
“It hadn’t been a huge deal for us,” Kingsbury said of batted passes, “but they do a great job of it if they can’t get home by getting their hands up and they’re both tall, physical and athletic. They’re definitely a presence even when they just get close to him.” If he’s carrying a grudge, you couldn’t tell judging by his conversation with Las Vegas reporters on Thursday.
Asked about his relationship with Murray, Jones said, “Kyler let’s his game do the talking and that’s one thing that I admire about Kyler. He shows up every Sunday and he plays well, and he does everything he can to help his team. Hopefully, he doesn’t help the team this week, but we’ll see what happens.”Jones left an indelible mark on several people in and around the Cardinals’ organization and according to the Raiders, he’s doing the same thing in his first season in Las Vegas.
“He was a big mentor for me,” he said. “He’s one of the best guys to ever have played this game when it comes to pass rushing, so that’s the guy to learn from.”Murray knows how valuable Jones is as an asset to his own as well as being a threat to the opposition. He saw it firsthand.
