Aaron Culbertson was arrested at age 16 for a 2018 aggravated robbery in Canton and sentenced to eight years following a jury trial.CLEVELAND, Ohio – A Canton man imprisoned since 2018 for a crime he maintains he didn’t commit was released on Wednesday after prosecutors admitted they charged the wrong man.

Culbertson’s release highlights a rare collaboration in Ohio between defense attorneys and prosecutors to free a prisoner who alleged a wrongful conviction, according to the Ohio Innocence Project, the Cincinnati-based organization representing Culbertson. On Nov. 3, Judge Kristin Farmer conducted an evidentiary hearing. That proceeding occurred nine months after Stone’s office launched a fresh investigation into Culbertson’s case after receiving new information from the Ohio Innocence Project, according to its director, Mark Godsey.
