The timing of his resignation may be critical to two important decisions: choosing a successor and selecting someone to take over for the retiring chief administrative officer, Helen Robbins-Meyer.
A growing number of elected officials — including a host of notable Democrats — is calling on Nathan Fletcher to vacate his seat on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors sooner rather than later.
Fletcher, who chaired the transit agency’s board of directors until he stepped down March 28, publicly acknowledged what he called “consensual interactions” with the plaintiff, Grecia Figueroa, who was fired in February. “Supervisor Fletcher should resign from office effective immediately,” said Moreno, the first elected Democrat to speak out on the timing of Fletcher’s leaving. “His misconduct has revealed that he is not fit to represent San Diegans in an elected role.”
Without Fletcher on the board, the panel is divided along party lines — Democrats Vargas and Lawson-Remer and Republicans Desmond and Supervisor Joel Anderson. The CAO is the primary public official responsible for the day-to-day operations of San Diego County, a sprawling bureaucracy that employs some 18,000 people and spends more than $7 billion a year serving more than 3 million residents.
According to NBC 7, Rep. Scott Peters said Fletcher should have no say in who becomes the next San Diego County chief administrative officer.
