Before the Celestiq, these flagships and concepts ran the gamut, from awesome to awful.

is also one of our all-time favorites: the 1949 Cadillac Series 62 Sedanette, from back when Cadillacs could still proudly claim to be the"standard of the world" without question. While the 1949's design was practically unchanged from the previous year, it did introduce a new overhead valve V-8 engine that we praised back at the time as the future of the industry.

was a future-focused concept platform for a bunch of new Cadillac ideas. It was also quite obviously a product of the Space Age. But it wasn't all about the outside, as the interior boasted some future-forward concepts, as well. There was a system that enabled voice commands with a hands-free phone setup, 28-way adjustable front seating, a rearview camera, and an active all-wheel-drive system that could automatically activate the front axle to assist with traction control. All features that wouldn't be common or even standard until years, if not decades later.

Still, it was something of a flagship in concept, taking the hybrid powertrain of the brand-sibling Chevy Volt and attempting to turn it into a luxury grand tourer of sorts. It was meant to shepherd in a new wave of practical and performance hybrids and EVs for the brand, and instead it was a huge marketing failure, sold under 3,000 units, and as far as Cadillac was concerned, the tech was shelved.
