appeared to be a star in the making. A disappointing sophomore campaign has brought that projection into question. Owusu-Koramoah is now entering a critical make-or-break campaign in 2023.
The No. 52 overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, Owusu-Koramoah hit the ground running as a rookie. The former Notre Dame standout recorded 76 tackles, four pass breakups, two fumbles forced, and 1.5 sacks as an immediate contributor. Owusu-Koramoah’s performance as a rookie raised his expectations for year two, but he wasn’t able to build on that performance.limited Owusu-Koramoah to 11 regular-season appearances as a sophomore in 2022. His numbers took an expected hit as a result.
Owusu-Koramoah didn’t fare much better in coverage. He was credited with allowing 25 receptions on 34 targets, which equates to a lackluster target-to-reception conversion rate of 73.5 percent. Owusu-Koramoah allowed 239 receiving yards and three touchdown catches. Perhaps Owusu-Koramoah was hampered by a defensive unit that was stretched too thin in 2022. Cleveland’s Swiss-cheese run defense allowed a 25th-ranked 135 rushing yards per game en route to a 28th-placed finish in rush defense DVOA. Head coach Kevin Stefanski responded by firing defensive coordinator Joe Woods, who was replaced byGeneral manager Andrew Berry also responded to the Browns’ defensive struggles by acquiring a ton of new-look talent on that side of the ball.
